Behind the name "Vintage"

People often ask us, why did you name your business Vintage Photography?  To be honest, we originally thought about the term when referencing the "vintage" of wine, but as time went on, we discovered it meant something more.  One evening we had discussed the fact that our photography business had become too seasonal.  We focused mainly on natural light photography and we relied on being outside to do our photo shoots.  We wanted to become a year round photography business.

We had thought about getting into Boudoir Photography, but I wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea.  Don't get me wrong, I love Boudoir Photography, I just did not think it was something we could do as business as a man and woman team.  Then one night the stars aligned for the both of us.  Chad was doing his normal evening study of photography and editing techniques in his office and I was surfing the net researching glamour photography when wham, boom, crash we both landed on separate Pin-Up Photography sites. You know its fate when you both land on the same idea at the exact same time without ever saying the words aloud to each other!  Within minutes a part from each other, I asked Chad what he thought about Pin-Up and he laughed and said, "I was just thinking the exact same thing".  Suddenly our name, Vintage Photography took on a whole new meaning.

We began researching the 1940's and 50's and also discovered the beauty of Film Noir photography.  We knew we needed to bring this unique niche of photography to Edmonton.  We chose to stay true to the style, fashion, hair, make-up and artistry of the era.  Chad perfected the vintage artistry in the Pin-Up images that truly make them unique and one-of-a-kind.  We gathered vintage props, vintage-inspired outfits, accessories and shoes and began shooting.

We have been fortunate to partner with a fantastic hair and make-up artist, Sondra from Blonde Ambition Beauty and we found a studio to rent from The Photographer Studio.  Our "vintage" style of photography was born.  We know we've found something very special to offer Edmontonians who want to have a special gift for themselves or their loved ones.

We still do our wedding, family and couple portrait photography and our photo booth as well.  It was important for us to keep each part of our business distinct.  Hence, when you search our name, you will find that we have three different websites.  We wanted to keep our offerings separate so that our clients did not have sensory overload or confusion when they go to our website.  We wanted to keep each service as simple to navigate through as possible.

Don't get us wrong, it isn't because we cannot figure out what we love most, it is because we love it all! It keeps us behind the camera, perfecting our craft and giving back to people who want to capture a moment in time. Whether we are helping our clients choose the right prop in our photo booth, to assisting with outfit selections and poses, to giving our clients confidence in our Pin-Up and Film Noir sessions, we love absolutely every moment of our photography business. We hope you join us on our journey as we share tips, tricks and funny moments of our lives enriched by finding our passion through photography.
