Preparation Steps for our Film Noir Photo Shoots ~ A Star is Born!

At Vintage Photography we take you on a journey from the everyday to a Vintage Hollywood Star!

If you've ever reached us inquiring about a photo shoot, you will hear us say "we will take great care of you".  Maybe you just rolled your eyes and thought to yourself everyone says that, but let us take you through our most recent shoot with most beautiful Vicky F. to show how much we time, attention and care we give each and every client.  We give you the Hollywood Star treatment!

Vicky's mom reached out to us wanting to purchase a sweet sixteen Film Noir Photo Shoot.  Vicky's mom went on to explain that Vicky idolizes Audrey Hepburn. We were delighted and immediately began prepping for Vicky's photo shoot.

One of the first things we always send our clients is "How to Prepare for our Photo Shoot".  We provide our guests with what to expect on the day of the shoot, what to bring, the details of the shoot, time and location along with preparation tips for the day of the shoot.  We want to ensure we remove any of the guess work or stress from our clients mind.  We ask them to come prepared with the following tips:
  1. Come clean shaven.
  2. Paint your nails.
  3. Get a good night's rest.
  4. Avoid any foods that may make you feel bloated on the day of the shoot.
  5. Wear loose clothing on the day of the shoot to avoid markings on your skin.
  6. Come with your hair clean and dry.
  7. Come with a clean face, if you have skin sensitivities please bring your own foundation.
Second, we share our Pinterest board full of dresses that we currently own for clients to choose from for their shoot.  You can check out our vintage inspired closet at:

We also encourage our clients to develop a story board of images they like from Pinterest and share them with us.  This usually includes set ideas, hair and makeup ideas and poses that capture the essence of the shoot.  For Vicky, I also created a story board on Pinterest called 'Audrey Inspired' and shared it with Vicky and her mom. You can view her story board here: https://www.pinterest.com/vintagephotoyeg/audrey-inspired/

Another special touch that we added to her sweet sixteen shoot was finding the right accessories for her.  It had to scream Audrey!  We had taken a small vacation to Palm Springs just before Vicky's shoot and our number one goal was to bring back an 'Audrey-inspired hat'...I  found some great sunglasses too!  We always try to go out of our way to do something special or unique for our clients. We want to create a positive and memorable experience for each of our clients.

Vicky shared with us the outfit she liked and the hair and makeup she wanted for her shoot.  On the day of the shoot, Sondra from Blonde Ambition Beauty nailed the look!  Check out Vicky's prep pictures and Vicky on the day of the shoot!  She definitely transformed into a movie star!

During the shoot, we will often refer back to the story boards we shared on Pinterest.  This does a few things.  First, it assists us in coaching our clients with the idea of the pose.  A picture really does say a thousand words and often times it is easier for our clients to mimic a pose in a picture rather being instructed verbally by us. We also feel it puts the client at ease because they have a visual of what we are trying to shoot.  It eliminates any awkwardness and stress.  Finally, it assists Chad with his three light set up by Rogue Lighting.

Once the shoot finishes, we go through each image and select our favorites to share with the client.  We typically capture over 150 images in an hour long photo shoot.  We will narrow the images down to about 40 and send them for the client to review.  Here is a screen shot of what we shared with Vicky and her mom to choose for our creative vintage editing:

Depending on the package, our clients choose anywhere from 4 to 8 vintage edited images that they will receive in black and white and color.  Each image typically takes Chad 30-45 minutes to edit.  He takes great care in creating the vintage look our images are known for.  To see our current packages, visit our Vintage Menu on our website at http://www.vintage-photography.ca/vintage-bombshell.html

It really must have been a hard choice for Vicky as every photo was amazing.  Here are the final results of some of her selections (check out that Palm Springs Audrey Inspired Hat!).

Vicky was an amazing women to work with and we really enjoyed our journey transforming her into a Vintage Hollywood model.  We hope to continue to work with Vicky on future projects.  She is a true gem!
