Theme ideas for your Pin-Up Shoot!

When we begin working with our clients for their pin-up shoot, I always ask two questions:
1.  Do you have a theme for the shoot in terms of clothing, props and hair?
2.  If yes, can you send us some ideas of photographs or images that have inspired you?

More often than not, the client has seen pictures of the great works by Gil Elvgren or Alberto Vargas and they would like to replicate their art at our pin-up photography session.  For example, we recently finished a shoot with Catrin who wished to be transformed into a Pin-Up witch!

Together with Catrin, we designed several different set and outfit changes.  She had a number of props relating to Halloween that she brought along to the shoot and we collaborated on a few outfit changes to make the shoot unique to her.  After the shoot, she selected her favorite and worked with Chad to add unique digital artistry into the final images.  Here were her favorites:

We loved recreating this cosplay themed pin-up shoot and if you ever looked through Elvgren or Vargas' work, you will see that there is not a theme they didn't try to draw.  If you are looking for a little inspiration for your shoot, here are a few other theme ideas for you to consider:
